Rachel Ashenden appointed Managing Editor

The Gutter team are excited to welcome Rachel Ashenden as the magazine’s new Managing Editor.

Rachel is a writer and editor based in Scotland. Until recently, she served as Art Editor of The Skinny, where she mentored cohorts of emerging writers and initiated the column ‘Gut Feelings’. Currently, as Commissioning Editor for Art UK, she leads the editorial vision for a Creative Scotland-funded project. Her writing can be found in several publications, including Extra Teeth, ArtReview, mates magazine and Plaster. With support from Creative Scotland, Rachel is working towards her first book.

‘I’m over the moon to be joining Gutter’s wonderful team,’ said Rachel. ‘I’ve long admired Gutter as a publication that amplifies Scotland’s immense writing talent within a global literary community. My ambition is to position Gutter as a publication that actively intervenes in reducing barriers to writing in Scotland. Writing is hard, joyful and infinitely rewarding; it shouldn’t only be accessible to the privileged few.’
