Gutter - Supported by Creative Scotland
We’re delighted to announce that we have secured funding from Creative Scotland, allowing us to continue to produce the magazine for another four issues.
Since we started as a co-operative in 2017, the magazine has gone from strength to strength as we move away from the Gutter Magazine of old, sporting a brand new cover design and format. Our approach has changed too. Since a pivotal Freedom Papers issue in 2018 (in collaboration with Edinburgh International Book Festival), we have made significant inroads into expanding our international reach. With issue 21 collaborating with the Scottish BAME Writers’ Network, we invited guest editors to join our team for the first time and celebrated writers of colour within its pages.
Going forward, we will be forging new international relationships with a very exciting exchange program in issue 23, details of which to follow soon. We are also continuing our Guest Reader program, inviting young BAME writers in Scotland to gain valuable hands-on experience of the running of a literary mag.
Ultimately, we exist to showcase the best new writing from Scotland and further afield and we continue to grow and develop as a magazine, whilst doing just that.
We are so appreciative that Creative Scotland have acknowledged our ongoing commitment to publishing diverse and challenging writing by offering us much needed financial backing in a fragile time for the arts. We intend to continue to demonstrate to them –and you, our readers–that we are deserving of this support.
